SUPER UNIQUE writing ideas for hobbyists and professionals looking for fun, personal projects to get their inspo back
get a fictional pen pal (ask your other writer friends!) and spend time decorating envelopes, picking out a handwriting style, maybe buying a cheap perfume/cologne that smells like your character to really get to know them and feel their presence. if you have hand tremors or bad handwriting like me, you can choose a handwriting font for them and print their letters out!! more examples: save the dates, wedding invitations, birthday cards, party invites, etc.
use old calendars in character (there are many "expired" planners on sale around the end of the year, usually August) personally, i use them to record major life events like first band tours, trips abroad, holidays, birthdays... even trash pickup days and when they forget to roll out the bins!
sketch floor plans this can be on graph paper if you have the know-how when it comes to scaling down, but there are also tons of simple apps that allow you to both create the floor plan a builder would use and add furniture like an interior decorator. some even let you rotate them afterwards and see the furniture and walls burst to life in 3D! you can think of them as the sims but where everything is actually to scale
make an architectural model if you have some scrap cardboard, paper, and glue, you can easily bring the floor plan you just made to life (you'll need practice if you want to get really fancy with it of course! window panes and railings are the gnarliest part for me, haha)
make a playlist as your character maybe the most accessible one on this list, you can make the playlist your character listens to. sometimes this can be fun and surprising, like when my little guy Possum from Violence Without Plot is covered in tattoos and plays punk music on stage but listens to nothing but spa music to wind down between shows
write something your character can see this one is so weird to summarize but what i mean is like... a school essay for your teacher character to grade. cryptic street signs warning about danger by the lake. a memorial plaque beneath a statue. a character's online blog. a few of the cards in a grandmother's recipe box. a business card for a smooth-talking lawyer. things you can write that make everything feel so textured and real
these are all things i do on the daily, and it makes my life as a writer a thousand times more joyful and fulfilling. so have fun, be safe, and don't forget to unplug the hot glue when you're done <3

From Frames to Connections: Behind the Scenes of My First Art Pop-Up
Preparing for my first in-person art sale was an intense but rewarding experience. I want to share some highlights from this journey—from finding creative ways to present my work to the unexpected moments that made it all worthwhile.
I started by collecting second-hand frames for my signed prints. There’s something special about giving these frames a second life, and I know how much people appreciate art that’s ready to hang. Refurbishing these frames felt like honouring their potential. Watching a piece come together in a frame, blending something old with something new, was incredibly satisfying.
Tumblr media
The pop-up was held at a local shop in my neighbourhood called Loohoo. The name caught my attention because it reminded me of my cat, Lulu, and the shop itself offered such a creative way to connect with the community. The owner provided space for local businesses to host pop-ups, and I was thrilled to have this opportunity to share my art.
As the event approached, my days were packed with prepping prints, designing small details, and juggling my day job. I even created holographic stickers with a QR code linking to a new digital card I’d set up. It’s a modern take on business cards, making it easy for people to find all my links in one place.
To promote the event, I collaborated with the shop owner to design a poster that was displayed in her window and around the neighbourhood.
Tumblr media
While recovering from an illness, I tried to balance work and pop-up prep from home. I don’t know how to code, but I had to learn a bit to make my backup Linux gaming console work for me as a backup work pc. It was exhausting, and the illness eventually got the upper hand. Preparing for the pop-up took a backseat while I focused on recovering from a month-long battle with back-to-back flus. My doctor jokingly called me "lucky."
The week before the pop-up was a frenzy of activity. I curated stickers, cleaned up frames, and set up displays for my silk scarves in some cheap boxes I found at the dollar store. They worked surprisingly well and kept the setup neat and approachable. My packaging leaned toward simplicity and sustainability: tissue-wrapped art in mismatched secondhand paper bags. It wasn’t fancy, but it felt like the right approach—practical and aligned with my values.
Tumblr media
The pop-up itself was an incredible experience. Meeting people, hearing their stories, and seeing how they connected with my art was one of the most rewarding parts.
Tumblr media
One piece that stood out to visitors was Wildflower Hair. Two people were especially drawn to it for very different reasons: one said it gave her a sense of strength and independence, while another shared her love for dandelions, despite their reputation as weeds. This piece was my way of saying that even when you feel like a "weed," you’re a beautiful flower, deserving of celebration.
Tumblr media
Heart of Gold was another favourite. One woman added it to her growing collection of anatomical hearts, while another loved the contrast of strength and openness in the design. The gold in the piece was meant to represent that delicate balance: strong boundaries that still let love shine through.
Tumblr media
After the pop-up, I took some time to rest and recharge. Reflecting on the experience, I realized how important it is to have a solid plan, especially when balancing a full-time job with creative projects. The event also gave me valuable insights into what works for markets, from display setups to the kinds of art that resonate most with people.
Connecting with people in person was a game-changer. Unlike the online world, which can feel like shouting into the void, the pop-up allowed me to see real reactions and have meaningful conversations. It confirmed that the emotions I aim to convey through my art resonate with others, even as they interpret those emotions in their own ways.
This experience has inspired me to think about how I might create a stronger sense of community around my art, even though I’m still figuring out how to do that. While online will remain my main focus, I’m excited to explore more in-person markets in the future.
Thank you for sharing this journey with me.

Convention haul! There wasn't barely any BG3 merch and the only thing I was interested in was gone before I found the artist's table. Still, my poor wallet...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First is the last volume of a very cute fanzine I've been reading for years, two Ace Attorney prints and a DS charm with the least heterosexual lawyers ever, all by the Wonderpun folks, Paula and Diego, who I barely see once a year for five minutes but are really lovely and funny people. They are exquisite pun artists and regale us with fanzines solely dedicated to them, not to mention the constant stream Diego posts on Twitter. They also make assorted merch for Pokémon, Ace Attorney, Yakuza, Resident Evil... There's a ton, check them out yourselves. Here's their online shop. All the JJK stuff is from an artist that didn't include any kind of business card and now I can't send you to his social media. OTL The print and Geto charm are for a friend.
As if this were exonerating at all, I feel I should stress that the fanzine and all its extras were already paid for because I joined the crowdfunding campaign this summer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also picked up a cheap set of dice and Fire Emblem cipher cards because you know, it's been a long time since I spent any real money at a convention. Prices are inflated, you can buy everything off the internet nowadays, and I had left the Artist Alley pretty unscathed, so I knew I wasn't going to spend much more.
Then I found a retro videogames stand with Japanese imports. They had Vita games. Japanese otome Vita games.
Tumblr media
THEY HAD THE ONE HAKOUKI GAME I'VE WANTED TO GET FOR 10 YEARS WHAT THE HELL
They also had Amnesia World for the same price and I thought about going back for it if I didn't spend a lot the following three days.
One shop had a bunch of YYH figures, including two I'd never seen of Hiei and Kurama that put together replicate the cover page of the Two Shots chapter, and sent a video to a friend who's a huge Hiei fan but couldn't make it to the con to ask if I should get it for her. She took three days to make a decision. More on this later.
After this, we found a place that sold vintage haori and I kind of fell in love at first sight with one. The sign said they were 30€ and up, but I have a vintage silk haori with some damage on the sleeves and that one was already 50€. I'd never seen one in good condition for less than 60€. Knowing that the price would be way out my budget, I asked anyway.
It was just 30€.
Excuse the shitty picture, but !!!! Those cranes!!! The lining!!!!!
Tumblr media
And remember the lady who ran out of her stand to do my hair? This below was the result. 10/10 marketing tactic.
Tumblr media
At this point I'm repeating over and over inside my head "This is fine" like the dog from the meme. I'm getting extra pay this month, no harm done, it's not like I spend money the rest of the year. This is it, I've already seen the entire venue, I'm immune to temptation, I'm probably not getting that second game. <-this is not foreshadowing
Before calling it a day, I asked my friends to try and find again the retro games shop to remember exactly where it was in case I wanted to go back, because the next days were going to be much busier and it's always difficult to move with so many people.
Turns out on the way there there was another import shop I had glossed over because it sold mostly trading cards and CDs, but I went to look at the table anyway because haha what's the harm you already know where this is going. (⊙x⊙;)
Tumblr media
The harm was basically half the recent group discography of Quartet Night. ಥ_ಥ They were pretty cheap, but I painted over the price because I'm still embarrassed and pissed, why the hell did I have to look. I am now the not so proud owner of the Quartet Night single where they dressed the idols as bullfighters without shirts and I can't even be angry about it because the song was good. Look at this. The second hand embarrassment is killing me. Anyway! Not getting the game for sure.
The next two days passed without any further damages to my wallet, which were admittedly quickly forgotten as soon as I got tackled by the girl I totally don't have a crush on when she saw me dressed as Hancock and whose dinner I paid for only because she treated us to a lot of places when we visited her city this summer. That night, before the last day, I had to insist to my home-bound friend to make up her mind already because I couldn't be glued to the phone while wearing cosplay, pushing a wheelchair and socializing with people I only see twice a year.
I'd decided the first day I'd get the Kurama figure only if she told me to get her a Hiei as well. She sent me a text past 12 AM saying she wanted it. In the morning I receive a message from the friends I was arriving to the venue with every day saying that after three days they cannot fucking move and are tapped out. I cannot fucking move either because Hancock's shoes destroyed my feet, but I go anyway, as soon as I can, because I'm a woman on a mission to retrieve a friend's husbando.
I went straight to the shop before joining up with anybody else and the Hiei figure was gone from the display case, along with another Hiei, the only Kuwabara and one Kurama. Mission failed. I asked one of the sellers about the Kurama one and she told me all except the one on display were sold out, so there was no box, and it was for the best because I was able to store him inside my bag. Here he is. I'm jealous of his sweater.
Tumblr media
After that, I joined my totally-not-a-crush for the rest of the morning and went to a panel where they gave us a bit of sake and Kobe beef while we waited for our other friends. The rest of the day went well, we saw a lot of people and said goodbye to everyone, and instead of going to the Korean BBQ place we had planned, the remaining four of us moved the dinner to the sandwich/pizza/crepe place across the street from our incapacitated friends.
I am now taking a vow of poverty until April.

Cheap Printing Services Near you in Elizabeth and Woodbridge
Running a small business comes with its unique set of challenges. Among them, finding cost-effective printing services is essential for producing high-quality marketing materials, reports, and other documents. In the bustling areas of Elizabeth and Woodbridge, small enterprises and local businesses are always on the lookout for reliable and affordable printing services to meet their needs. Let's explore how you can find the best printing services near you, why it’s crucial to support local businesses, and some real-life success stories that demonstrate the benefits.
Tumblr media
Why Cost-Effective Printing Matters for Small Businesses
Printing costs can quickly add up for small businesses, especially when you need to print in bulk. Whether its flyers, brochures, business cards, or banners, having a go-to printing service that offers affordability without compromising quality can make a significant difference in your budget.
High-quality printed materials help project a professional image to your clients and customers, establishing trust and credibility. Additionally, cost-effective printing solutions allow you to allocate more resources to other critical areas of your business, such as marketing and product development.
Comparing Local Printing Services in Elizabeth and Woodbridge
When looking for "printing services near me in Elizabeth" or "printing services near me in Woodbridge," it’s essential to consider both affordability and quality. Here’s a comparison of a few local print shops that excel in both:
Elizabeth Print Shop A- Elizabeth Print Shop A has been serving the community for over a decade, offering a wide range of printing services from business cards to large banners. They pride themselves on using high-quality inks and paper, ensuring vibrant colors and a professional finish. The shop offers competitive prices, with bulk printing discounts that are perfect for small businesses.

Their state-of-the-art printing equipment allows them to handle large orders efficiently without sacrificing quality. They also offer design services, so if you need help creating your marketing materials, they’ve got you covered.
Comparing Prices and Services- Both print shops offer similar services, but their pricing structures and additional services can vary. It’s a good idea to request quotes from multiple print shops to compare prices and see which one offers the best value for your specific needs. Don’t forget to ask about any ongoing promotions or bulk order discounts.
Tips for Choosing the Right Printing Service
Selecting the right printing service involves more than just finding the lowest price. Here are some tips to help you make the best choice:
Look for Quality and Consistency- Quality should be your top priority. Ask for samples of their work to ensure that the print quality meets your expectations. Consistency is also crucial, especially if you plan to use their services regularly.
Check Reviews and Ask for Recommendations- Online reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations can provide valuable insights into a print shop’s reliability and customer service. Look for reviews that mention timely delivery, good communication, and satisfaction with the final product.
Evaluate Their Customer Service- Good customer service can make a significant difference in your overall experience. Choose a print shop that is responsive, willing to answer your questions, and eager to help you achieve the best results.
Success Stories from Local Businesses
Several local businesses in Elizabeth and Woodbridge have experienced substantial benefits from using nearby printing services. Here are a few examples:

Boosting the Local Economy- When you choose local print shops, you’re contributing to the local economy by keeping money within the community. This helps create jobs and supports other local businesses.

Decline of Culture in Hong Kong - Historic Building Preservation
there has been a growing call among Hong Kong locals to preserve the city's heritage
schemes such as 'conserving central', an initative from 2009 aimed to preserve and transform old buildings into 'unique cultural landmarks
however, these landmarks seem to have focused more on commercialisation and profit rather than preservation and respect for Hong Kong's history
built heritage became an important item for the government following 1997.
The Murray Building, Central
was a former government office building
dates back to 1969
has been transformed into a luxury hotel
brings the question - is the government's aim to preserve historic buildings, or just for commercialisation?
conservation should ensure the cultural significance of a building or site is preserved before its profit potential is thought about
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Central Market, Central
building was used as early as 1842, named Canton Bazaar
rebuilt in 1938 and renamed Central Market
It was a typical Hong Kong style wet market for locals to buy cheap and local produce
due to its location being in the city centre of Hong Kong, surrounded by offices and wealthier residents, they completely changed the purpose of the market
it is now full of expensive artisan grocery stores, overpriced markets and coffee shops - again reemphasising the idea of 'preservation' meaning commercialisation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Queen's Pier, Central
Demolished in 2007
colonial building built in 1954
served as a ceremonial landing place for British colonial governors
protests believed to mark the post-80s and heritage conservation movements
demolished to make way for land reclamation and construction of the central - wan chai bypass tunnel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PMQ (Former Police Marital Quaters)
the site was built on the grounds of what used to be Queen's College which was built in 1889
it was repurposed after WWII
Built in the 1950s as residential quarters for police officers and their families
all families were evacuated from 2005-2007
went under renovation in 2014
the space is now used as a shopping centre for smaller businesses - divided with 55% used for studio units, 25% for commerical use and 20% for public space
advocacy to prevent demolishment of the building turned it into a place for commercial use
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lee Tung Street, Wan Chai
During the 1950s, Lee Tung Street was known for printing and manufacturing wedding cards
there used to be printing shops all the way up the street - it was a must for brides and grooms to be
in 2007, the old buildings were demolished and replaced by newly designed architecture
focusing on higher end shops, restaurants, cafes and hotels
former tenants were forced to leave and give up their businesses
as a result of the renewal, prices sky rocketed
target customers shifted from locals to upper class and tourists
